Keynote Speakers

Karin S. Thorburn

NHH Norwegian School of Economics & The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (Norway)

Karin S. Thorburn is Research Chair Professor of Finance at NHH Norwegian School of Economics and Adjunct Full Professor of Finance at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She regularly publishes her research, which focuses on takeovers, credit, distress, and governance, in the top journals. 

Thorburn is a CEPR Research Associate and an ECGI Research Affiliate. She has served as Council member of the SFS, Director of the Executive Committee of the EFA, and Director of FMA International. She is a Director of the Board of several corporations, and regularly serves on government-committees in Norway related to financial regulation and the investment strategy of the Government Pension Fund Global.

Thorburn holds a PhD in financial economics from Stockholm School of Economics.


Stefan Ruenzi

University of Mannheim (Germany)

Stefan Ruenzi is a Professor of Finance at the University of Mannheim since 2009. Before, he studied Economics at the University of Konstanz, got his PhD in finance from the University of Cologne and was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Ruenzi's research areas are broad and cover empirical capital markets research, gender and diversity, asset management, sustainable finance, financial advice, and machine learning applications in finance.

 

He regularly publishes in the top finance journals (Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies), presents at the leading conferences in his field and has given keynote speeches at international conferences. He received various prizes for his research and his results are regularly covered in the international public press (e.g., New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, NZZ, FAZ).  Professor Ruenzi teaches in the Bachelor, Master, and PhD program as well as in MBA programs in German and English. He was director of the graduate school of economics and social sciences and the PhD finance program at the University of Mannheim for several years.

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

We invite you to submit your research papers for the XIV World Finance & Banking Symposium, taking place from december 15th to 17th, 2025, at the Faculty of Business and Economics, Mendel University in Brno. This three-day event promotes the exchange of cutting-edge research, educational insights, and best practices. The conference includes paper presentations, discussions, and specialized sessions, offering a platform for scholars and professionals to share their work..

AREAS OF INTEREST: The scientific and organizing committees eagerly welcome submissions in all areas of finance, economics, and banking.

Formatting Your Paper: Please use Times New Roman 12-point font, with 1.5 spacing. References may be single-spaced. Ensure that all pages of the paper are numbered. The maximum length of the paper is 50 pages, including the title page, figures, graphs, tables, appendices, and references.

To facilitate the blind review process, REMOVE ALL AUTHOR-IDENTIFYING INFORMATION, including acknowledgments, from the uploaded document. Reviewers will be reading this document without any author-identifying details. While you will include all authors associated with your submission during the submission process, this information will appear in the printed and online Program.

Double-Blind Paper Review: All papers will undergo review by at least two anonymous reviewers.

  • Acceptance Notification: August 31, 2025


Instructions for Paper Submission:

1. Click on the following link: Submit. If you already have an account on our platform, proceed to step 2. Otherwise, please sign up and provide your personal information.

2. Sign In or Sign Up: If you have an existing account, simply sign in. Otherwise, create a new account by signing up and entering your personal details.

3. Submission Process: Once logged in, select the option to "Submit a Paper" from the menu.

4. Proceeding Option: If you choose the "Proceeding Online" option, at the conclusion of the conference, we will compile an E-proceeding book with ISBN, containing abstracts from all these presentations. Note that only abstracts, not full papers, will be published to prevent conflicts with future journal publications.

5. Selecting Topics: During the submission process, indicate the topics of your paper. If you wish to apply for a special session or the Shark Tanks session, select the corresponding topic from the list. Additionally, if you intend to apply for the Ph.D. Tutorial Session, choose this option from the list as well.

6. Upload Your Paper: Finally, upload your paper. Please ensure that you provide two versions: one with the names of the authors and another without for blind review purposes.
